Topography, raw clay, 2018, Spain

Since the beginning of my career, I seek to explore the traditional language based on the transformation of clay and its products, a highly subjective and tactile form of fusion between solidity, stillness, and memory. I usually engage with the contexts and localities where my research takes place, responding this way to the contemporary context of global exploitation of resources, industrialization, urbanization, and its consequences.

In search of a time in-between, I produce an important body of research based on different exercises with clay, ceramics, and porcelain, intertwining traditional and contemporary techniques. In times of coexistence of the material and the digital, I decided to apply CNC technologies to generate and carve figures, subverting functions, senses, and meanings of these instrumental devices.

“It is as if we could petrify species and forms, crystallize processes, reveal territories: materials involved in Andrea´s work close cycles beyond the narrative. In search of a time in-between, the artist produces an important body of research based on different exercises with clay, ceramics, and porcelain, intertwining traditional and contemporary techniques. In a context of productivity acceleration and radical transformation of nature, Andrea´s work helps us to remind that every material object is a place in itself”.
